Fred Cornell Hartsock (September 2, 1883 – May 20, 1961) served many positions at the Milford National Bank including cashier, president and chairman of the board of directors. In community government he served on the Milford Board of Education for 14 years as well as stints on the Clermont county Board of Education and the Milford Board of Public Affairs. Hartsock was a founder and president of the Milford Kiwanis Club.

Biography

Early life and family

On October 22, 1908 Hartsock married Carolyn J Mosher.[1] She would die unexpectedly on May, 1951, when Hartsock discovered her unconscious in a chair at home. [2]

Banking career

On June 28, 1907 Hartsock attended the Ohio Bankers Association meeting in Cincinnati. [3]

In 1917, Hartsock was listed as cashier for the First National Bank of Morrow and former assistant auditor of Fifth Third National Bank in Cincinnati. [4]

In February 1917, Hartsock left the cashier position at First National Bank of Morrow to become cashier at the Waynesville National Bank. [5]In 1920, he became cashier at the Milford National Bank, where he would stay for the remainder of his career. [6]However, it may have taken until January 1935, for Hartsock became a director of the Milford National Bank. [7]

During this turbulent time, Hartsock was active in professional banking organizations. In October 1921, Hartsock was elected to Ohio Bankers Association executive committee. [8]In June 1922, he was elected President of Clermont County Bankers Association. [9]

Hartsock would make vice-president of the Milford National Bank in 1944, followed by president in 1948. [10] In 1960, Hartsock would step down as president to become chairman of the board of directors for the bank, a role he played until his death a year later. [11]

In 1939, Hartsock was listed as treasurer of the Milford Home Building Company, a business linked to Milford National Bank. [12]He would be promoted from vice-president to president of the Milford Home Building Company in February, 1952. [13] The following year he would lead the organization to a new headquarters. [14]

The mid-fifties were roaring times for both the Milford National Bank and the Milford Home Savings Association. Both organizations saw Hartsock declare a 100% stock dividend in 1955 and 1956, respectively. [15] [16]

Other career highlights

Hartsock was very active on multiple school boards throughout his life starting with the Waynesville Board of Education in 1918. [17] In March 1937, he resigned from the Milford Board of Education after 18 years citing ill health. [18]

During WWII, Hartsock was Chairman of the Clermont County Victory Fund Committee where he raised millions of dollars for the war effort. He resigned this position after the first three war bond campaigns all exceeded their goals. [19]He was involved in at least two more war bond and victory loan campaigns as a co-chairman. [20] [21]

Hartsock served four years on the Milford Board of Board of Public Affairs. During this time, as president he brokered an agreement to supply water to surrounding communities in case of a Cincinnati city employees strike. [22]

In January 1944, Hartsock celebrated 16 years with the Milford Kiwanis where he was a founding member. [23]

Later life and death

Hartsock died at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH on May 20, 1961. Two years before his death he had been the first to receive the "outstanding community service award" from the Milford chamber of commerce. [24]
